The Basic Bob Ross Oil Colors

When Bob learned the wet-on-wet painting style from Bill Alexander, Bill was only using 8 colors. So Bob originally went around the country teaching painting with 8 colors. These are those original colors and they are included in the Master Paint Set. On the TV show Bob will often use extra colors (listed below) but you don't really need them to do his wet-on-wet painting style.

• Alizarin Crimson

• Bright Red

• Cadmium Yellow

• Midnight Black

• Phthalo Blue

• Sap Green

• Titanium White

• Van Dyke Brown

 

The following colors are not included in the master kit and are not required to get started but they are great to have. If you are painting along with a Bob Ross video, he will probably use some of these colors.

• Dark Sienna

• Indian Yellow

• Prussian Blue

• Phthalo Green

• Yellow Ochre

• Mountain Mix (a pre-mixed color to under paint your mountain)
